Blowing the Dust Off

Not off my scrapbook supplies. They get plenty of use. Blowing the dust off this little blog, though. My biggest roadblock to blogging about papercrafting is my aversion to photographing my pages and cards and actually transferring the pictures to my computer. I hate to let this space keep going to waste, though, so hopefully, I can get better at sharing.

Here's the card I made for my nephew's second birthday next week:

Supplies used: paper (DCWV), border punch (EK Success), gems (Target dollar spot), die cut (QuicKutz), embellishment (ki memories), white pen (Uniball), chalk ink (ColorBox)

Has anyone else noticed that birthday-themed products are popping up everywhere lately? From Pink Paislee and House of 3's Soiree line to Basic Grey's Life of the Party and more. It seems funny that something that happens to everyone every single year can suddenly become trendy. This is definitely the time to stock up on card supplies for the whole year.

CUTE! How about a card-making tutorial? I've recently started trying to make some with my Cricut, and I could use a little guidance.

Thanks! Maybe I'll get REALLY ambitious next time and take step-by-step pictures.
Oh, Tracey, this just warms my little Tracey-made-crafts-lovin' heart. I love that Simon won't appreciate this at all, but it's adorable.

I guess maybe card-making is just getting more popular and needs more products?

Not only will Simon not appreciate it, but he might pull off the little gems and the rubber cupcake and choke on them. The card is totally NOT appropriate for a 2-year-old in that way, but I refuse to compromise my aesthetic for children.

What's really funny is that these birthday products aren't even aimed specifically at card-making. They're 12x12 and very scrapbooky in nature. Those little pennant banners have been showing up all over the place on scrapbook pages over the last year or so. I just think bright primary colors and celebration/party-themed stuff is popular right now in the same way that sewing-themed and 1950s housewife-looking stuff was trendy over the last couple of years.

Luckily, our love for solid black backgrounds and polka dots keeps us classic and timeless.
Oh, I honestly just figured you made the pennants yourself. Way to give away your secrets!

What's the next big trend in scrapbooking? We need to get on it, make our own line, and actively mock all the other lines out there so the middle-aged women will feel bad about themselves for buying them.
Those little flags were already on the patterned paper, but I cut them out so they would fit on the card, inked them, and adhered them down. The banners you see the most on scrapbook pages and cards right now are those hanging triangle-shaped flags. I've resisted them for the most part, even though some of them are really cute.

We should think of something NO ONE else has every done before in scrapbooking and set the trend ourselves. Surely we're weird enough to come up with something totally new, right?
